 Think About Turning Today!

It seems like we are a busy little woodturning club with various members going in the many directions that the woodturning hobby offers.
First remember our A & E Committee has designated April 9th as the night of the "Big Unusual Egg" event, so be creative and enter the contest ( top votes will receive a door prize ).      A very nice lady from Powell has given our club 700 wood wheels for toys along with a large box of wood "men".  This is a great opportunity for a new twist to our tops and pens at our Fair Booth.  Plan to take some home and develop your own toy creations.
A report at our meeting will be from the six club members that attended the Anthony Harris demo in Bozeman on the 28th.
The two day Bismarck "hands-on" Symposium is on the weekend after our April meeting ( call me at 348-3499 if you are interested in attending ).
We will have an update on our classes at West High as it winds down for the school year.
With the addition of the 10 chairs the club voted to purchase at the last meeting there are now about 30 seats available, so unless you need your own personal "soft" chair, the need for each member to haul their own has been eliminated.
Besides door prizes the raffle on the 9th will feature a large number of elm, apple, cedar, & box elder bowl blanks.
   See you at the meeting.

Minutes

President Stan Lambert opened the meeting at 7:00 pm sharp on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at Ron’s shop. There were 28 members present and one guest.

Jane was so kind to bring cookies.

Show and Tell

Several items were brought in for show and tell

Dr. van brought in his train car to go with the rest of the set.

John Wasden showed us the bolt for threading and 2 tools. Also a weed pot with off center turning.

Bob brought in his recently completed road grader. Looks like hours of work to me.

Mick Hogg showed us some pen boxes and Stan brought a bowl he had completed for a friend.

Health reports on members. Dan is out of the hospital and in California seeing a new grandbaby. And Marge is finally feeling stronger and looks great.

Don Buska did his story telling with a large bags of bowls. Must have been at least 20 bowls with details on them. Some had detail with inlace, some had coffee grounds,( yes I know I have a poor memory, but it was coffee grounds) and some had corian detail. All were beautiful and original. Thanks for the show.

Stan showed us his new chuck system for all sizes of bowls. Lots of work went into the project, but Stan should be set up for all sizes and shapes for now.

Old Business

Ray and Dave heard back from the grant committee. We are approved for $1000. We need to send a letter by June 1st with a plan for the money.

A discussion followed on what kind of symposium, spirit of the grant, and if we want to offer a class for higher level of interest or for the beginning level of turners. We need to plan 2 or 3 years in advance. So as a group we need to start thinking about this and make a plan.

New Business

A motion was made and passed to buy 10 chairs at $8.00 each for the club and for now to be stored at Ron’s shop.

Program

Red gave a great presentation on Inside/outside turning. That is an art form in itself.

Overall it was a great meeting and we will see you all again next month.
