VP Hoffman called on Beckman to give a report of the brainstorming session which was held at Hoffman's home on Saturday, Jan 7 with four officers and 7 members. This meeting was held with the idea of deciding on a direction that the club should be going and to figure out how to get the newer members involved.
Beckman covered 24 different ideas that had been brought up and elaborated a little on some of these items.
Floyd Creekmore covered the show and tell portion and urged the newer members to join in this part of the program.
Red O'Connell suggested that the club should have a committee on advancement and education to help the newer members. Red was appointed chairman of this committee along with Ray Curtis and Ron Musgrave. (Ray is new member of our club, having signed up tonight). (This committee will present a report at the upcoming meeting. R.F.)
Ron explained that there will be a learning session held in his shop on Saturday, January 21. There will be two sessions: the first session will start at 10 AM and the second session at 2:00PM. There will be five lathes available and they would like at least 5 newer members for each session with five more experienced turners available to help. It is planned to be turning tops at the first session and Christmas ornaments at the second session. You can also bring something that you are working on and would like some help with.
A sign up sheet was passed out among the members.
The location of Ron’s shop will be available on the web. The address is 506 Sioux Lane in the Heights but like Ron said you cannot get there from Sioux Lane, but must enter thru the alley.
One of the items discussed at the brainstorming session on Saturday, January 7 was for the club to supply some soft maple. Mick Hogg cut this into 2x2x7 inches long and these were available at the January 11 meeting.
