Think About Turning Today!
Greetings at the start of another year. I wish all our club members a great
2008.
First a "big" thank you from all the Yellowstone Woodturners' officers for
your election vote ( and vote of confidence ) We feel this is going to be a year
of continued learning for each member; and some new directions for those that
like to tackle different
challenges.
Next I need members to call me if they have an interest in attending the demo
by David Nittmann this coming Tuesday, Jan. 8th. My Phone number is 348-3499.
So far two members plan to attend.
A re-cap of the previous notice about David Nittmann.Tom Robinson from the
Bozeman club has invited us to attend the evening session (1-1/2 to 2 hours)
They will only charge us $10 per person. This will give us a first hand report
back to our
club so that we can make a decision as to consider having him for our own club
later in Jan. Tom said Mr. Nittmann is quite good and his work was recently
featured on the back cover of "Woodturner's Journal". Call me if you care to
go to Bozeman for this next Tuesday.
Ray Curtis has informed me that pending any last minutes changes needed from
member input he will mail the application for an AAW grant this Friday.
I will have some "Badlands" Cedar for sale at the meeting on the 9th.
We have three $10 Merchandise Certificates from Craft Supplies to be raffled
on the 9th along with any other donated wood.
I am working on the West High class that we will run this next Wednesday
afternoon. A report will be made that evening.
Stan Lambert, Pres.
Minutes
President Stan Lambert opened the meeting at 7:00 pm sharp on Wednesday Dec. 12, 2007 at Ron’s shop. There were 25 members present and one guest, Ernie McKensie, Ed’s guest.
Thank you Dewaine Beckman for the cookies. You’re a good turner and a good baker.
A motion was made, seconded and passed that the minutes be accepted as printed in the newsletter.
Stan called on Jane for the treasurer’s report.
Correspondence
No correspondence this month.
Old Business
Don Busksa proposed to keep all the officers for one more year. It was voted on and passed. Thank you Don for your hard work on that project.
It was reported that 8 people had signed up for the West High Club meeting. 7 showed. There were 12 students and the group covered pens, sharpening chisels, safety and watched a bowl be turned. The plan is to go monthly with 2 people, the next date is Jan. 9 at 3 pm.
New Business:
Going to the Boys Ranch was discussed. The message from them is that they want to do the program but are not really ready. We will keep the door open for future opportunities.
Stan reported on getting Badland Cedar and thought he might be there over Christmas and that he might be able to bring some home soon.
A raffle was held and Rick Orr, John, Bob, and Les were the big winners.
Program
The program was to vote on favorite Christmas ornaments. Paul was the winner, Ralph Torrence second, and Marge third. Gifts were given to each.
Thank you and see you in 2008!!!
Joke of the Month
AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES
1. When choking on an ice cube, simply pour a cup of boiling water down your
throat. Presto! The blockage will instantly remove itself.
2. Avoid cutting yourself slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold
while you chop.
3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using the
sink.
4. To treat high blood pressure: simply cut yourself ( the table saw works great
for this) and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins.
Remember to use a timer.
5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from
rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.
6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be
afraid to cough.
7. You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and
should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
8. When confused remember.....everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
9. SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES. NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY
BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.
