Think About Turning Today!
Well it's a New year and a new club Presidency. Were hoping that you all had a Great Christmas, with lots of new turning tools, and a Happy New Year. Were looking forward to a Great year turning and sharing that knowledge with you and learning what you have to offer. We have a few new Ideas that we will be presenting to the club this next meeting so plan on attending and offering your input.
This year we are working on a new format for Presentations called Back to Basics. Each month part of the presentation will be on a woodturning tool, (parting tool, roughing gouge, spindle gouge, skew, ect) sharpening the tool, Do's and Don'ts, and it's use. The rest of the presentation is up to the team to choose. You could continue with a project that goes along with the tool or something different. Your choice. Have a tool you want to present, or someone you want to work with, Sign up at this next meeting. Months left open for presentations after this next meeting, club members will be assigned by the activities committee so signup. Were asking for 3 or more members per monthly teams.
We will be continuing to work with West High, and as always looking for members help in keeping the program going, This month it has been suggested we continue with spindle turning and work with them on making a goblet. This will teach them end grain hollowing, wall thickness measuring, turning a thin stem and parting off a project. Club members that are going to help, please plan on bring a chuck to hold the wood and a spindle gouge and calipers.
