Jail House Gallery

Dave Torrence passed around some pictures he had taken at the gallery and said that the good news was that some of the articles had been sold.

The Custer Re-enactment will be held June 24th and though it would be nice if some of our turners could be at the gallery and explain some of the work on display, the members who may go to Hardin for this are George Hoffman, Red O'connel, Dan Schindler, and Jane Swaby.  The gallery will be open from 9AM until 5PM, and it was suggested that the above turners should try and be there by 10AM.

 Demonstration

Inlace By Red O'Connell

(An inlay material, For more information see www.inlaceonline.com. )

First of all Red said that Inlace is dangerous stuff and you should be very careful not to inhale any of the fumes.

The things you can mix with the Inlace is limited to your imagination.  Red has used coffee grounds, ground up rice, pulverized coal and you use food coloring if you want  different colors.  Add Sparkles (glitter)  of various colors.  Red said Bondo does not take dye very good. Some precautions that should be taken when using Inlace are:

1 Keep all raw material in area where the temperature will stay below 90 degrees.

2 Work in a ventilated area

3 Wear eye protection at all times.

4 Mix in a glass or paper containers.  Some plastic containers will work just fine but test plastic before mixing a lot of material.

5 Don't store raw material in direct sunlight.

Directions

Take and mixed 2 fluid ounces of Inlace and add 2ml (1 cap full) of hardener and any coloring or other components to glass container.   Mix well but try and avoid bubbles.  You have 12 to 15 minutes to install Inlace to your project.

Inlace will be hard enough to turn in 12 hours.

Touch ups- After finishing your projects and you find a small area that needs filling, clean the area with acetone and install more lnlace, or just use a drop of Hot Stuff and refinish the area. After refinishing you won't be able to find the repair.  Very small pine holes caused by air bubbles will be filled in when you apply a finish of your choice.

Red suggested that you make a groove 1/8" deep and wide with V type edges so the inlace won't fall out.
