Think About Turning Today!

First a report of our Demo at Heights Ace Hardware; it all started about 8:00 a.m. this past Sat. Unless I miss a name it was Martin, Mick, Ed, Carol, Lloyd, Derrick, Micah, Jerry, Brady, Stan, & Paul showed up to work at set-up, demonstrating, and clean--up by 4:30.We had a display table, lots of interest from the public, and some possible new members. Thank you everyone for the equipment you brought & and a fine day of turning and socializing ( especially a big thank you to Ed Auker for providing the 10 X 20' awning to protect us from at the sun on a hot day ).

On May 15th Don, Mick, George, Paul Stan, & Martin attended the Bar-B-Q at West High to end our year of classes for their Tech Club. It was a good event; and hopefully we have sparked further interest in these students to be involved with our club in the future.

Last month at our May meeting Don Buska gave an educational program on the availability of computer aids for segmented turnings. He did a fine job, and we thank him. It appears to me that our new system of having all members participate in the monthly programs is working.

Our June meeting is next week on the 10th. What will happen at the meeting? Well, I hope to have a check from A & H Turf so that we can finish up with Ron"s wood, and get a check to Trudy.

We need to decide on details of an open shop on the 13th. We need to talk about the composition of our Symposium. The Fair is not far away, so it isn't to early to make up a large supply of tops, pens, etc. Our "Boys" have already started with the making of tops. ( I"m hearing rumors of them re-instating the old system of money awards at the Fine Arts Building).

Our program for the June meeting will be by Ray Curtis and Wayne Stahley on Pepper and Salt Grinders.

I have been talking to Ken Quaschnik from Great Falls. He is with the "new' wood turning club in that city. They are up and running, have some expert turners/demonstrators in the club, and are looking for ideas to become more involved. We certainly welcome a new club in our part of the world.

Stan Lambert, Pres.
