Treasurer’s Report
The audit committee met and concluded that the books are in order.
The symposium generated a profit of $239.84. As of February 12, the club has a balance of $2,785.80.
Correspondence
The club has received a copy of the calendar for the Rocky Mountain School of Woodturning in La Porte, CO (just north of Fort Collins). Anyone interested in getting a copy can contact Gerry Rhoades.
The club also received a schedule from the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO. The schedule can be seen online at http://www.andersonranch.org/
Entry forms have also been received for the Dakota Woodturners Symposium in Bismarck, ND April 13-15.
Committee Reports
The Symposium was judged a success by all who attended. The committee wanted to express their thanks to all who provided space and especially to those who provided food and refreshments.
Old Business
A reminder that we are supposed to be turning eggs for the April meeting.
After some discussion, it was generally agreed that we have probably outgrown the space at Billings Hardware. It was also generally agreed that the Career Center space could probably be used on a long term basis, but the Meeting Space Committee will continue to look for meeting space. It would be nice to have a space where we could have a locked cabinet that would hold a lathe and other things belonging to the club.
Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch is looking for club members to teach woodturning to the residents.
New Business
Ed Auker suggested the club buy a coffee pot. A motion was and seconded to that affect and was passed. Stan Lambert will buy the coffee pot.
Dan Schindler suggested the club add the AAW Symposium DVDs to the library. A motion was made and seconded to make $365 available to the librarian for new acquisitions, including the AAW Symposium DVDs. The motion was passed.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned to coffee and cookies and Ed’s presentation on buffing.

Wayne Hoffman
Wayne Hoffman was born in July of 1940 in
Billings, Montana, living on the bench for seven years then moving to the near
Westend. His father was an accountant but had a hobby of building houses in the
summers; so Wayne began learning carpentry early as a natural part of family
life. In about 1947 his dad bought a Craftsman wood lathe so he and his brother
tinkered with it for many years until Wayne sold it in about 2000; whereupon he
soon bought a Jet mini-lathe which he uses now, hoping some day to buy a larger
lathe.
Wayne graduated from Billings Sr. High School in 1958, went to MSU-Missoula
where he graduated with a BA in Math/Physics in 1962 then continued in school
two more years, receiving a teachers certificate. He taught high school
math/science in Helena for three years then joined the department of defense to
teach American students on bases in Newfoundland, Germany and England until
1972. His dad was retiring from accounting and offered Wayne the business so he
came back to Billings, went back to school to become a licensed public
accountant and worked in accounting until 2003 when he retired.
Wayne married June Genger in 1964 and together they raised two children, Eric
(1970) and Julia (1972); currently both living in Portland. Wayne and June
divorced in 2001 but remain friends. In the last decade Wayne has been adding
equipment to his shop and now has a 13" swing metal lathe, which he uses more
for woodturning, a drill/mill machine, a Delta 12" radial arm saw, a 12" Grizzly
band saw and a 10" Makita chop saw.
