Think About Turning Today!
A big thank you to all the club members who worked so hard to make our fair
booth an excellent event. We
won a ribbon for "People's Choice" and had many positive comments about the
display and demo's. Great
team effort!
SYMPOSIUM Oct 13-14 Just weeks away; our first 2 day symposium will be a
fine way for club members to
get "expert" instruction for different turning techniques and products at a
fraction of the cost of attending an out of state event. Some of our
members have experienced Lee Carter and Pete Holtus classes and are enthusiastic
about having them here at the Career Center. Hopefully most of our members
will sign up at our Sept. meeting. We have let the Bozeman and Poulson
clubs know about the symposium; and we may have to limit attendance.
The format will be one half "hands on" and one half class room style
sessions. Lunch, snacks, and much more is being planned by the A & E Committee.

Program
Martin attended a trade show held in Las Vegas, (AWFS). The show was for professional woodworkers showing the new product lines of tools, Equipment, Machines, Ect. There were 14000 Booths there to look at and watch demos of the new product lines. We had a short class on scroll sawing by Paul, and Martin showed off his new saw that he picked up at the show. At the end of the program, Martin gave away his old scroll saw, in a drawing, It was won by Ed Levenbeeger.
Dan Schindler
I have reviewed the judging from the MontanaFair 2007 and gleaned the flowing facts.
The total number of entries in the fine arts woodturning this year were 53 which is down from 58 last year. Of these entries 22 were in the beginner/intermediate category submitted by 5 turners. The remaining were in the advanced category submitted by 4 turners. Interestingly the entries were evenly distributed among the different lots such that no lot had fewer than three or more than four entries so all the eligible prize money was awarded. only three honorable mention ribbons went un claimed.
As in previous years I will retain a copy of the judging results report so if you would like any specific information from it let me know.
The three Yellowstone wood turners special awards were as follows:
Honorable mentions beginner bowl/plate $25.00 ---------- Ron Musgrave
Honorable mentions Advanced bowl/plate $25.00 -------- Donald O'Connell
Judges Choice award $25.00 ----------------------------- Don Buska
I received a letter from the fine arts superintendent thanking us for our participation in the fair and sharing some of her thoughts about the woodturners participation. I will bring it to the September meeting to share with the membership.
I would like to thank everyone who participated this year and encourage you all to consider entering next years fair. It's a good way to show the community what we as woodturners can do and how beautiful turned wood really can be.
